Through the Government’s ambitious Carbon Plan the UK has established the real long term objective to reduce emissions by 80% from 1990 levels by 2050.
Responsible for this is the Dept of Energy and Climate Change – DECC. Initiatives and grants for renewable energies are available now for both domestic and commercial premises. However, the Green Deal, now due to be rolled out later this year, is the corner stone for a change in the culture of the nation as it focuses on the assessment of a property’s energy rating with the achievement of good insulation properties being the key to unlocking financial support packages for energy efficient add ons. The message to be heard is that the cheapest fuel is fuel that you don’t use!
The Carbon Trust provides independent verification of your carbon footprint and lots of information on energy efficiency, practical advice and grants. It’s a great place to start.
